This template is for any website that uses a lot of text. The point of it is to display text in a beautiful and simple way, with clean key lines and crisp edges.

I’ve worked hard to create a fully-legible website with little clutter and limited dark space.

You will also find one or two neat little features, such as the CSS drop-down navigation and the JavaScript ‘Feeds’ menu.

Feel free to download and customise as freely as you like; the template is free and you don’t have to give me credit for the design. Please don’t sell it, though, because that’s not fair.

You may or may not be aware that the long-awaited second series of Torchwood is starting on BBC Two in January and, in celebration, I’ve created this free Torchwood-inspired template.

This two-column template is dark, metallic and almost grungy, but it appeals whether used in relation to Torchwood or not. It can be adapted to suit many needs and is perfect for a somewhat stylish personal Web site.

This template contains a ‘pass code’ text form in the header, but this can easily be changed to a search bar.

In the Zip, you’ll also find the Photoshop file for the header so you can change it and adapt it in any way you please.

I understand I’ve been using a highlight effect on the headers of my recent templates. I think it looks good. If you don’t, you can change it easily and rest assured that I’ve had my fix of coloured backgrounds on my headers!

WARNING: As with one or two of my other free CSS templates, Torchwood uses the transparency function with the PNG images. If you use Internet Explorer 6 or earlier, this will downgrade in to slightly garbled images. The vast majority of Web users now use up-to-date browsers, however, and so are not affected.

Cool Graphite is the latest in what is fast becoming a series of ‘Cool’ templates. This is a slightly more souped-up version of yesterday’s Cool Blue: Modernity.

Graphically more appealing, I think, this template is a cool new look for most simple sites which just need to be that little bit more attractive.

Finally, a new free template for you to start downloading and using however you please. It’s been a long time coming; I haven’t built a free template from scratch in four months.

This one’s fitting for the winter months and is an updated, modernised version of CoolBlue.

The header on this template is created using Adobe Photoshop, so you will need some Adobe image editing software to change it. Also included, though, is a way to do without it completely and use a simple type header. For you graphic-challenged simpletons out there…

Well, I never got around to using it and so here it is for you to use as you please. It can be described with the title alone, it is cool and it’s blue. There are many uses for this one, and it can be customised using the links on the live preview (all three styles are included in the download).

Warning: This template uses the ability of PNG images to be transparent but in Internet Explorer 6 and below, this doesn’t render properly. That’s what comes from using Internet Explorer, I’m afraid. I did try to make an identical GIF version, but it doesn’t work nearly as well. (This template works perfectly in Internet Explorer 7+)

I understand that this template is loud and fun, but that was the point. It is designed only for something fun and is not meant to be taken seriously.

It uses the fabulous combination of dark greys and very deep pinks to great effect together with a bold header (which includes the .psd file so you can edit the header image in Photoshop.)

Built entirely around a simple Dynamic Drive horizontal menu, I built a green and white template which can be used for almost anything.

This is somewhat more corporate-looking than my previous ones, but I think it can be adapted and personalised to fit almost any needs.

Better yet Aries V1 is completely valid CSS and XHTML.

It makes use of the great ability of blues and white to go together and even has a neat trick on the Home navigation link.

It comes complete with all the tags usually required and is easy to read and configure so you can add more. It will suit almost all small content-based Web sites and can be widened easily if required.
